Johnny and Dally compare contrast

What would happen if someone compared a tough hard trouble making greaser to a quiet weak abused one? The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is about a gang of kids that have unimaginable problems and are considered worthless..

Dallas “Dally” Winston is a rough kid who always gets in trouble. Dally is from New York City where he used to run with all the gangs and get into trouble with the police. Dally was always in trouble with the cops; whenever something happens on their side of town the cops always go to Dally. Dally’s parents don’t care about him or what happens to him. In the book Dally is the toughest and one of the oldest members of Pony Boy’s gang. If he has something to say about anything he speaks his mind and doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him but, Dally also has somewhat of a soft side when Dally comes to see Pony Boy and Johnny he says” Johnny, I aint mad at you. I just don’t want you to get hurt. You don’t know what a few months in jail can do to you. Oh, blast It, Johnny you get hardened in jail. I didn’t want that to happen to you like it did to me…” After Johnny dies in the hospital from his burns Dally is so upset he robs a store and then the police shoot and kill him.

Johnny Cade is a quiet scared boy who keeps his mouth shut at any sign of danger. His parents are abusive and beat him and earlier in the book he is severely beaten by the soc’s. Since he is beaten up so much his gang treats him as the pet. Later in the book he runs away with Pony boy and they stop at the park and some soc’s come and try to beat them up. During the fight while Pony Boy is being drowned Johnny kills the soc named Bob. In the end Johnny becomes a hero by saving a bunch of kids from a church that was on fire but gets crushed by one of the beams and breaks his back and dies from his injuries.

The things that these two people have in common are that they are both in the same gang. They both die in the end of the book but in different ways. They both care about each other but only Dally shows it in the book.

Johnny and Dally have a lot of differences and almost no similarities. Despite their differences they were friends because of the close bond they shared in the gang.
